Showcasing pictures and short videos from my travels and adventures
This is Vestervika Beach in Norway's Lofoten Islands. A trail led from the front door of our rental house into the island's interior. The path climbed past two freshwater lakes, up and over a lush ridge bracketed by cliffs, and then down the other side of the island to one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, ocean waves crashed on a sandy beach graced with stunning seaside cliffs. A lone sailboat offshore had me wondering who could be so lucky as to have that boat, and then I realized how lucky we were to be there on that Arctic beach, bare feet in sand and water under a midnight sun.
This video was taken at almost exactly midnight as we hiked back home from Vestervika Beach. A marine layer was building, sending a river of clouds from the Arctic Ocean over the island. At times the clouds enveloped us in a thick fog, but at other times they broke up just enough for us to get a view of the alpenglow on the mountainsides.
At a walk-to Airbnb cabin in the mountains above Andalsnes, Norway, we enjoyed the company of these magical and friendly horses for two days beneath the peaks and alongside the mountain streams of west-central Norway.
